INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION PROJECT
The Transmission Development Plan 2024 identifies the need to establish approximately 14,000 kms of transmission lines and related network infrastructure over the next 10 years in South Africa. Given the scale of capital investment, as well as the capacity and expertise required to implement this ambitious programme, the South African government has resolved to collaborate with the private sector. This will be achieved through the establishment of the Independent Transmission Infrastructure Procurement Programme (ITIPP), which will facilitate the expansion and strengthening of the national transmission network and associated infrastructure.
INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION PROJECT
The Programme is being implemented in phases, beginning with Stage 1, which involves the procurement of Independent Transmission Projects (ITPs) for specified transmission facilities. To give effect to the Transmission Development Plan (TDP), a Transmission Determination has been issued by the Minister.

The Department will adopt a programmatic approach to the rollout of the Programme to ensure the efficient and coordinated delivery of transmission infrastructure in line with the objectives of the TDP.
